IMO: POLICE ANTI-ROBBERY SQUAD ARREST FOUR SUSPECTS, RECOVERS VEHICLE

As continued efforts are being made to curb the country of the rising spate of insecurity, the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Imo State Police Command have arrested four armed robbery suspects in the state.

The squad was also said to have recovered a vehicle suspected to have been snatched from a victim of the nefarious activities of the gang.

A statement issued in Owerri , the state capital on Tuesday by the Command ’s Public Relations Officer, Orlando Ikeokwu , stated that the suspects were arrested on Monday at their hideout in Nekede in the Owerri West Local Government Area of the state following a tip -off.

He said the suspects are Michael Anyanwu, Uche Obi, Chikezie Ejiaku and Ifeanyi Chilaka .

The police spokesperson, who disclosed that the suspects had confessed to the crime, said that they would be charged to the court at the conclusion of the investigation .

The statement read partly “On August 12, 2019, upon credible intelligence, operatives of the Special Anti- Robbery Squad , SARS , swooped on a criminal hideout around Nekede and arrested four suspects .

“Michael Anyanwu , 35 of Obinze , Owerri West LGA , Uche Obi , 38 of Army Barracks , Obinze Owerri West LGA , Chikezie Ejiaku , 42 , of Oforola, Owerri West LGA and Ifeanyi Chilaka of Avu junction, Owerri West LGA .

“Vehicles recovered; LEXUS 300 jeep ( ash in colour ) registration number EKY 444 CF , LEXUS 300 jeep( dark grey ) Registration number , EKY 894 CC .

“It is noteworthy that on June 28 , 2019 , at Mbonu Ojike , one Amarachi Osualla ‘F ’, put up her vehicle for sale . One of the suspects on the pretence of buying the car demanded to test the car after bargaining , and as such zoomed off with the car to an unknown destination .

“The command has since been on the lookout for the suspect as well as the said car before their arrest now .

“ They have however confessed to the crime and other incidents , and efforts are on to recover other stolen vehicles , while investigation continues .”
