Mane, Salah fire Liverpool atop EPL; Man City humbled by Norwich

Premier League leaders Liverpool on Saturday afternoon shrugged off an early scare to sweep past Newcastle and maintain their 100% start to the season with another dominant attacking display.

Sadio Mane was again their go-to man, scoring twice in the first half after Jetro Willems’ fine first goal for Newcastle had given Steve Bruce’s side a shock early lead.

Mohamed Salah added a third after the break, with the third member of Liverpool’s attacking trinity Roberto Firmino providing two brilliant assists and stealing the show with a superb performance from the bench.

The Reds have now won 14 league games in a row in a run that stretches back to a draw at Everton in March – the joint third-best winning run in English top-flight history – and go five points clear at the top.

The reverse as the case for second-placed Manchester City, Who crashed downwards hours later after suffering a stunning 2-3 defeat at Norwich City.

Kenny McLean (18 minutes), Todd Cantwell (28 minutes), and Teemu Pukki (50 minutes) took advantage of a ragged City defence without the injured Aymeric Laporte for a remarkable upset.

The visitors earned some respectability with goals by Agüero (45 minutes) and Rodri (88 minutes).

It is a result that moves Norwich up to 12th in the Premier League.

Burnley substitute Jeff Hendrick grabbed a 90th minute equaliser as the visitors held Brighton & Hove Albion to a 1-1 draw at the Amex Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday.
