Kebbi state implements N30,000 minimum wage

The government of Kebbi, on Monday, September 23, announced the commencement of the new N30,000 minimum wage to workers in the state.

It was reported that the payment of the new wage will commence in September 2019, as stated by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Babale Yauri, who spoke in Birnin-Kebbi, capital of the state. “This is in line with the signing of the new minimum wage legislation by President Muhammadu Buhari and in cognisance of Kebbi government’s commitment to workers welfare.

“Governor Atiku Bagudu, has graciously approved for the immediate payment of minimum wage of N30,000 to the state civil servants with effect from September 2019,” the SSG announced.

According to Yauri, the implementation of the new wage followed the consultation with the Kebbi House of Assembly, leaders of labour unions and relevant government agencies. “In spite of the resource constraint, the state government has decided to implement the new minimum wage,” he said.

He further stressed that with the commencement, no employee of the state government should receive less than N30,000.

The SSG added that local government councils were encouraged to review their revenue profiles so as to begin to implement the new minimum wage legislation immediately.
