Imo Govt. revisits development of abandoned Oguta Lake Resort
Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha led administration has begun the process of resuscitating Oguta Lake resort as work begins at the Oguta Motel.
This was disclosed by the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Gerald Irona, on Sunday, October 27, 2019, when he inspected the moribund facility, alongside the Managing Director of ISOPADEC, Engr. Owuoma Anthony Okwuosha.
Recall that the motel, initiated in 1975, will employ more than 1,000 workers and explore the tourism potentials of the area when it is operational.
Engr. Okwuosha assured that the motel being a legacy project will not be allowed to totter but will be put to productive use, adding that the golf course would revive sporting activities in the area.
In the same vein, the Managing Director of the Commission, Engr. Owuoma Anthony Okwuosha has revealed that the commission, in no distant time, will build an Olympic size swimming pool in Oguta Community in Oguta Local Government Area of the state to complement the ongoing stadium constructed by Oguta Local Government at the Council secretariat.
According to him; “This is in keeping with the directive of the Governor, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, on Wednesday, October 23, 2019, during his inspection of the projects embarked upon by the Commission.”
He said that with the tourism potentials of the local government, a good sports center with the Olympic size swimming pool would prepare the local government to host national and international sporting events.
The Managing Director of ISOPADEC, Engr. Owuoma Anthony Okwuosha, assured the Governor that the Commission would immediately commence the process of awarding the contract for the construction of the Olympic size swimming pool in the area.
He noted that when completed the facility would be of great help in harnessing the sports talents and help reduce youth restiveness in the area.
Recall that Chief Ikedi Ohakim had mapped out plans to develop the vast tourist potential of the Blue lake with N18.5 billion bond. He failed to achieve this dream as his second term bid could not come to fruition.
Meanwhile, his successor, Chief Ethelbert Okorocha thought differently by not utilizing N18.5 billion with its proceeds for the purpose for which it was secured. However, there were some work in the motel with a conference center, which were also abandoned, thereby making it home for reptiles, rodents, creating a true wild life food chain.
