BREAKING: Appeal Court Upholds Ihedioha’s Victory As Imo Governor

The Appeal Court sitting in court Abuja has affirmed the victory of Emeka Ihedioha as the Governor of Imo State.

The court delivered the judgment on Tuesday following an appeal filed by the Action Alliance, All Progressive Grand Alliance and the All Progressive Congress challenging the election of the governor.

The court in two separate verdicts dismissed the petitions brought before it  by All Progressives Congress candidate, Senator Hope Uzodinma and Senator Ifeanyi Ararume of All Progressives Grand Alliance for lacking merit.

The appellate court in its earlier verdicts had dismissed Uche Nwosu’s petition, upholding the verdicts of the tribunals, which upheld Ihedioha’s victory as the winner of Imo governorship election.

Meanwhile, the court also fined the appellants a total N1.5 million for wasting the time of the court.

All appellants argued in their appeal that the governor did not obtain the constitutionally required one-quarter of the votes cast in at least, two-thirds of the 27 local government areas of the state, as provided under Section 179 of the Constitution.

The appellants, therefore, prayed the court to set aside the decision of the tribunal and declare them winner of the election or in the alternative order a rerun.
