BREAKING: Ganduje loses as Court nullifies creation of additional emirates in Kano

A High Court sitting in Kano state on Thursday has nullified the appointment and creation of four additional Emirates by Kano state government.

The presiding Judge, Justice Usman Na’Abba ruled that due process was not followed in the creation of the said Emirates.

Recall that Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje had in May, 2019, assented the bill seeking the establishment of four additional first-class Emirates – Rano, Gaya, Karaya and Bichiin – in Kano State, an action that was allegedly influenced by the raging rift between him and Emir Lamido Sanusi.

The report had it was targeted at Emir Sanusi to humiliate due to his alleged different stance on political issue.

Ganduje had presented letters of appointment to the four new first-class Emirs during a ceremony held at the state capital.

Among those presented with the letters of appointment include Aminu Ado Bayero, the son of Late Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, as the Emir of Bichi; Ibrahim Abulkadir as the Emir of Gaya; Tafida Abubakar as the Emir Of Rano and Abubakar Ibrahim II as the Emir of Karaye.

Following the controversy it generated, four Kano State kingmakers filed a suit against Ganduje and the State Assembly.

If Ganduje’s move had workek out, the creation additional Emirates would created room for the decentralisation of the Kano Emirate council thereby decentralising the power of Emir, thereby whittling down on the powers of Emir Sanusi.
