Ihedioha’s government will not tolerate vices in Imo School System – Imo Orientation Boss

The new Director General of Imo Orientation Agency, Chief Martin Opara has bemoaned reports of increase in cult activities and other social vices in primary and secondary schools, saying that Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha led government has resolved to sanitise and rid the school of such ills.

The new orientation boss bared his mind last Monday while addressing the staff of the agency on assumption of office.

Voicing his preparedness to launch war against the ugly development, he also listed other negative tendencies pervading the society today to include dearth of patriotism, loss of moral values, bribery and corruption, neglect and vandalization of public assets and services and destruction of the environment.

Attributing reports of cult activities in schools due to neglect by the last administration, he described the development as very scary and disturbing.

Chief Opara however made it clear that the present government led by Ihedioha will wage serious battle against it, with the intention to completely eradicate the scourge before it grows into another rampaging monster.

His words: “Deviant behaviours in the state school system be it at the primary, secondary or tertiary levels are unacceptable in the present rebuilding process of Gov Emeka Ihedioha.

“As advocacy and reorientation agency, it is among our primary duties to not only make government position clear to all stakeholders, but more importantly, to wage war against the ills in the society.

“A situation where our children are unduly exposed to addiction to pornographic contents and other social vices in primary and secondary schools in the state is unacceptable.”

He stressing the resolve of the agency to tackle the hydra-headed monster with every seriousness in view of the dangers they pose to pupils and society at large.

Chief Opara who advocated synergy among stakeholders in the fight against fledgling social vices in primary schools and other educational institutions, also charged parents to take their primary task of parenting seriously, noting that the increasing cases of deviant tendencies among students and youths could be traced to parenting failures.

He expressed worry over the dearth of patriotic spirit among citizens in both their private and public lives, noting that for every society to grow and develop, patriotism must be a key way of life for the government and the citizenry.

He noted that the present Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha led adminstration has demonstrated its patriotism and commitment to rebuilding the state after eight years of devastation, including the decadence reported at every level of the school system.

He appealed to Imo people to imbibe the culture of love for the state so that working together with the government, the lost glory of the state will be brought back.

According to him citizens can manifest this positive attitude by their commitment to living up to their civic responsibilities, including getting involved by reporting such ills of the society to appropriate quarters.

Chief Opara added that citizens should equally contribute their quota to the growth and development of their various communities, pointing out that when citizens are committed and patriotic in the their various communities, transferring such spirit to the state is easy and possible.

While bemoaning the rot that befell the agency under the immediate past adminstration, the new helmsman assured that despite the enormous challenges prominent of which is decrepit office accommodation and institutional breakdown, he will do everything humanly possible to bring the agency back to life, so that it can effectively and conscientiously carry out the onerous task of propagating the myriad of achievements of Gov Ihedioha.

Chief Opara who expressed gratitude to the governor for his effort to revamp the agency in line with his rebuilding mantra, charged workers of the agency to embrace the new dawn in the state and the establishment by rededicating and recommitting themselves to duty as the task of correcting the destruction of the previous adminstration can’t be left for the governor alone.
