Imo Comes Alive as Obazu Under 17 Tourney kicks off

All roads lead to Obazu-Mbieri, the heartbeat of Mbaitoli local government area of Imo State as one of its illustrious sons, Comrade Tobe Peters hosts Obazu under 17 Football tournament.

The opening ceremony kicked-off today with pomp and pageantry at the open field of Obazu Community Secondary School (OCOGRAM).

In an exclusive interview with NewsTrack, the sponsor of the tournament, Peters said:

“It has always been my dream to contribute towards youth development. I am a youth and I have seen that we have diverse gifts. I am interested in sports development and ICT because these are two areas that can take our boys off the street.

” Our people are very talented in sports, especially football. we must create a platform through which we can showcase these talents to those that will want them to out their hands on paper in exchange for their talents.

“There is a saying that an idle mind is the devil’s workshop. One if the ways to reduce decadence and crime is to keep them busy and create a platform where they will not only appreciated but will be exposed to scouts and other opportunities.

” Another reason for this tournament is to foster peace in the community as the villages that make up Obazu will play and compete among themselves. This will create room for cohesion and appreciation of one another with respect.”

The even kicked off with a cracker between Umuchimanwiri and Umuchoke.

Dr. Onyewuchi Asinobi was the Chairman of the Opening Ceremony, the Deputy Speaker, Okey Onyekamma as the Special Guest of Honour while Ndubuisi Ahuihe among others.

Other dignitaries who put in appearance were Hon. Emeka Ahaneku, Comrade Irobi Darlington among others.

Meanwhile, Chief Iheanyi Abaekwume was the Chief Host.

According to Peters, the tournament will be sustained as he promised to work with Obazu leaders and other notable personalities to ensure that the dream is sustained.
