Abuja bank siege latest: One robber killed, four arrested

The police have confirmed an end to the siege by law enforcement agents on a bank branch in Abuja following a robbery incident –

Some armed robbers had attacked one of the foremost Nigerian commercial bank in Mpape area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja on Saturday, December 27.

According to an eyewitness, the robbers, who arrived shooting sporadically as they gained access into the bank but were blocked from leaving with their loot by a combined force of policemen and soldiers.

One of the robbers, who stepped outside, was sent back in with a hail of bullets and has been confirmed dead by police while four members of an armed robbery gang that stormed a bank in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja have been arrested.

Daily Trust reports that the spokesperson of the FCT police command, ASP Mariam Yusuf, confirmed that normalcy has been restored in the area just hours after the five-man gang stormed the area.

The affected first generation bank has also confirmed the end of the horrible incident in an official statement.

The management also assured that customers and staff of the institution were all safe and well.

“We wish to inform everyone that the attempted robbery incident that happened at one of our branches in Abuja has been foiled; customers and staff are unhurt, and the suspects have been apprehended.

“The immediate response by the police and military is very commendable and we truly appreciate them for their doggedness and commitment.”

Meanwhile, the residents in the Mbape province have been engulfed with fear as movement around the area has been reduced.

However, an eye witness who simply gave his name as Prince, spoke with NewsTrack Nigeria. He observed that the security personnel have earned his respect.

“This is the first time in my life I would be witnessing such a dangerous engagement.

” Those mobile policemen and soldiers were really gallant. How can somebody put his head in such a dangerously risky arena. Wow!”

“See as I dey shake hear! Thank God no innocent person was killed,” he said.
