Apex Court affirms Tambunal’s election as Sokoto Governor
The Supreme Court has upheld the election of Aminu Tambuwal of Peoples Democratic Party as the Governor of Sokoto State, dismissing appeal filed Ahmed Aliyu of All Progressives Congress.
In an unanimous judgment delivered by Justice Uwani Abba-Aji, Monday, the court ruled that the appellant failed to prove his case of non-compliant to the electoral acts.
Recall that APC Governorship candidate had filed a suit challenging the election of Aminu Tambuwal over non-compliance to the electoral acts, thereby claiming over voting.
Sokoto State had been besieged by joint security formation to contain any backlash that may arise from the judgment of the Supreme Court following threat from the contesting parties.
The Supreme Court in its wisdom may have applied situation management mechanism by adjourning the judgment day, which gave room for calming of tensed admosphere.
