SUPREME COURT REVIEW: Ihedioha must be arrested and tried for bringing the image of Nigeria to disrepute – Group

A group under the aegis of Global Association of Concerned Imo Youths (GACIY) has called for arrest of the former Governor of Imo State, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha for bringing the image of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and the country at large to disrepute.

This call is contained in a statement made avalaibe to newsmen, Tuesday, by its President-General, Dr. Melody Uchechukwu Ezenna.

The group’s statement reads:

“The Supreme Court has once again affirmed its decision that Gov Hope Uzodinma is the duly elected governor of Imo State. The court has made a name for itself by standing on the side of truth and justice without playing into the hands of political desperadoes whose stock in trade is blackmail.

“Chief Emeka Ihedioha has now bowed out in the most shameful manner after dragging the reputation of Nigeria to the mud. All those who participated in bringing the name of the Supreme Court to disrepute have committed high crimes, and they must be held accountable.

“By challenging the authority of the Supreme Court and openly sponsoring resistance against the flawless verdict of the court, Chief Ihedioha did rise up against Nigeria. He sought to destroy the most sacred institution in the land so as to undermine the sovereignty on Nigeria and create anarchy.

“On four occasions, the leader of the Biafran separatists, Nnamdi Kanu, aired special broadcasts in solidarity with Chief Ihedioha. He threatened fire and brimstone, and said hell would be let loose on Nigeria because of Chief Ihedioha. His former deputy, Gerald Irona, amply captured their motive when he said Nigeria would boil and Imo would be left without governor and governance.

“We cannot pretend that no laws have been broken. And because we know that Chief Ihedioha has committed treasonable felony, we do hereby call on the security agencies to quickly arrest and prosecute Chief Emeka Ihedioha. He has serious questions to answer.

“We are further worried that his lead counsel, Kanu Agabi, who parades a national honour of CON could take part in the plot to destroy Nigeria and repudiate our cherished democratic institutions. Such a man is undeserving of a national recognition. We call on the Federal Government to quickly strip him of that unmerited honour. The EFCC and ICPC should also launch serious investigations into the sources of the slush funds which Agabi and his colleagues got for the failed hatchet job. We are not ruling out the possibility that the enemies of Nigeria might have been funding them so stupendously that they threw caution to the wind and elected to wreak havoc on our country.

“Chief Ihedioha and Agabi should be made to learn the bitter lesson that Nigeria must not be set ablaze simply because of one man’s political ambitions.

“Imo people are today grateful to God that the era of vindictiveness, parochialism and corruption has ended in Imo State. And it is a prayer held in the hearts of everyone that an atrocity like Chief Ihedioha should never be allowed to happen again in Imo State.”
