Covid – 19: Traders, Food vendors are not complying with preventative measures – Madumere

The former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere has raised alarm over the continual non-compliance of the laid down preventive procedures against the global pandemic of Covid – 19 by most people in non-formal sector.

Prince Madumere raised the concern while admonishing some congregants shortly after church service, at his country home, Lake Malinda, Mbieri, Mbaitoli local government of Imo State.

He sternly warned against what he described as dangerous trend among traders and food vendors.
He frowned at a situation where most traders and food vendors have refused to believe that Covid – 19 actually exist.

Expressing fear over what the practise portends, he said he discovered that most women at their shops and sell points do not wear face mask, he prayed they should not make themselves the major vector of the dreaded scourge.

His words: “It them. It is worrisome to learn that most of our people still believe that Covid – 19 is a mere farce. You can imagine people freely discuss it. It is really surprising that somebody will walk up to you and ask, ‘is this coronavirus real’.

“The one that is even more frightening is to learn that traders with human beings swirling around, you discover that most of them care less and would not even wear face masks.

“I wish to urge our people to listen to the prescribed preventive measures. I don’t see anything too hard to abide by these procedures. For those of you calling God, have you forgotten that cleanliness is next to godliness.
“What is difficult in regular wash of hands, wearing a face masks to reduce spread of droplets, which is the fastest way the virus spreads, he queried.

“These men and women will not wear anything around their mouth. Even if it is not Covid – 19, there are other communicable diseases that could be spread in such manner.

“It is on this area that I call for a reinforced sensitisation on covid – 19 laid down procedures, especially those in the public places.

“The governments must be firm in this project. To win Covid – 19, like said in my previous outings with the newsmen, all stakeholders, by this I mean traditional rulers, village heads, religious leaders, including Covid – 19 task force and security agencies should work with in synergy to ensure compliance. Our people must learn to be responsible and show concern and love for another. These are steps we must take to kick out the ravaging pandemic.”
