With the sacking of Eric Abidal and Quique Setien, Barca is on the verge of conducting a proper revamp. The appointment of Ronald Koeman could be considered as a high-risk high-reward project, however, it rests assured that the former Barca defender knows how to handle a star-studded dressing room which could be a pivotal factor for the club to get back on track.

Ronald Koeman wants the Argentine to stay at the Camp Nou as he wants Messi to be the pillar of his team. It is fair to say that at the age of 33, a new expedition out of Spain may not be the shot for Lionel Messi, and retiring at Barcelona might just be his best option.

If Messi does agree to stay until 2021, then the question arises whether the club and the player would agree to a contract extension.
