Don’t create Hausa Emirate in Chikun, activist tells El-Rufai

AbdulGafar Alabelewe, Kaduna

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has been asked to ignore the call for the creation of an emirate for the Hausa-Fulani community in Chikun Local Government Area.

An activist and politician, Comrade Waziri Yakubu who made the call in an interview with journalists in Kaduna on Monday said, such a call is only meant to distract the Governor from his good programmes and policies.

A group known as Cibiyar Na-Tanko had earlier asked the Governor to create an Emirate for the Hausa-Fulani community in the area.

Comrade Yakubu said, while it is the constitutional right of the said group to express such demand, doing so is not in the best interest of development and peace of the local government and the state at large.

He noted that in the Chikun chiefdom, the Hausa man is the District Head of Gwagwada while a Gbagyi man is the District Head of Kujama, hence such demand to him is rather uncalled for.

Comrade Yakubu who contested for the State House of Assembly for Chikun constituency on the platform of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) commended Governor El-Rufai for his developmental strides in the state and further urged him not to allow himself to be distracted with trivial demands.

According to him, “The governor is doing well in all ramifications and should not be distracted by demands for the creation of chiefdom at this material time, besides such demand is uncalled for because of the two districts in Chikun local government a Hausa man is the district head of Gwagwada while a Gbagyi man is the district head of Kujama.

“The governor upon assumption of office drastically reduced the number of districts to save cost, so any call for the creation of chiefdom now in the face of ongoing developmental projects in the state is not necessary.

“I advise people to channel their agitation to the sustainability of peace and development of the state than to be yarning for things that are not visible that might end up dividing people because when Mallam el-Rufai came on board, he removed hundreds of district head to save cost and nothing happened and yet we are living in peace.

“I wish to call on the Governor not to be distracted, I expect the agitators to talk about security, protecting lives and properties, peaceful coexistence and what will unite rather than that which will divide. We must live together in peace with one another,” he stressed
