Okorocha Alone Squandered N106b, Imo Government Clarifies, Apologises To Udenwa, Ohakim

The Imo State Government has made clarifications on the report of Justice Benjamin Iheaka led Commission of Enquiry, specifying that the panel only investigated the administration of the former Governor, Rochas Okorocha.

According to press release issued by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Hope Hope Uzodimma on Tuesday, Oguwike Nwachuku, contrary to the report in some news platforms that former Governors Achike Udenwa and Ikedi Ohakim were involved, he stated that the report of the investigation, which was submitted on Monday, October 5, 2020, only covered between 2011 and 2019.

Therefore the report indicted Okorocha’s regime, saying it uncovered fraudulent contracts worth N106billion which the regime should be made to refund.

The statement reads: “The investigation covers the award of contracts during the period of Okorocha’s administration from 2011 to 2019 and not 2006 to 2019 as erroneously reported by some newspapers.

“Consequently, the report by a local newspaper(name withheld)that former Governors Achike Udenwa and Ikedi Ohakim are to refund N106 billion together with Okorocha should be ignored as the probe period did not extend to their regimes.”

“The mix-up arising from the duration of the probe – 2011 to 2019 – and not -2006 to 2019 – is highly regretted”.
