#ENDSARS: Madumere Pushes For Total Police Reform

The former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere has called for holistic reform of the Nigerian Police, saying that it will be a step in the right direction.

Madumere’s call was contained in a statement issued by Uche Onwuchekwa, his Special Adviser on Media & Publicity.

According to the statement, the former Deputy Governor could not agree less with the nationwide protests, describing it as the power of democracy.

He observed that it will only create room to having more responsible and better equipped Nigerian Police personnel.

“First, let me commend the rapid response from President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government towards addressing the yearnings of the people of this great nation.

“The concession to the people by heeding to their demands is the highest level of democratic tradition. Those protesting, too, are exercising their constitutional rights as the sovereign in a democratic society.

#ENDSARS Protest is borne out of the frustrations of the peoplewho kept eating a humble pie from a gang who chose to stand the ethics of their first line charge of protecting lives and property on its head. What we are witnessing is disenchantment occasioned by many years of bottled frustrations.

“I am for total reform, which will touch every facet of the personnel’s activities ranging from mode of operation, remuneration, code of conduct and restraining codes that will serve as a deterrent to would-be-erring officers.

“President Buhari has made promises and for sure he is one President who has kept his words. This will not be different because of its import in national cohesion, peace and security.”
