BREAKING: Fleeing Maina Extradited To Nigeria After Arrest In Niger Republic
The embattled fleeing Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina jumped bail in a bid to evade arrest has returned to Nigeria to face his ongoing money laundering trial
Recall that Maina was arrested in Niger republic after after he jumped bail.
The Federal High Court had ordered Senator Ali Ndume to be remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre for failing to produce the former Chairman of the defunct Pension Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina.
Ndume who is representing Borno South, stood as surety for Maina who is standing trial on alleged money laundering charges.
Maina who was rearrested by the Interpol was received by men of the Nigeria Police Force at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Thursday.
According to the Channels Tv, the aircraft carrying the former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team landed at the Airport at 2.15 pm.
Mr. Maina is standing trial for alleged money laundering to the tune of 2 billion naira.
Speaking with journalists, the Commissioner of Police in charge of Interpol said Mr Maina was brought back to Nigeria on the directive of the IGP, Mohammed Adamu.
Meanwhile, earlier Thursday, a Federal High Court in Abuja granted the request by Adeola Adedipe, a defence lawyer in the trial of former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Abulrasheed Maina, to be allowed to withdraw from the case.
According to reports, Adedipe had represented Maina’s company -Common Input Limited – charged as the second defendant in the money laundering trial of the PRTT Chairman.
On Thursday, the lawyer moved the application for leave to withdraw, which he filed on November 25, 2020, which Justice Okon Abang granted in a brief ruling.
