Leadership Is Sacrificing For People without Reward, Says Imo Former Deputy Governor

The former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere has admonished politicians not to expect reward when they make sacrifices for the good of their people, stating that it is the essence of leadership.

The former Deputy Governor made the call on Sunday during at the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Diocese the Lake, Oguta local government area of Imo State during Ordination of Priest and Investiture of Knights.

While commending Bishop Chijioke Oti and other clerics, stating that they have stood in the gap spiritually and otherwise.

Delivering his sermon titled: “Don’t Settle for What is Available, You are Unstoppable”, Venerable Sunday Iheruo had charged the congregants never to be comfortable in their ordeal but to pray and work very hard out of their situation.

He further admonished the congregants to learn to make sacrifices if they wish to grow and meet their heart desires.

“Most people have failed in meeting up with their set goals because they failed to make sacrifices. The cleric who is also a lecturer said that students who have refused to sacrifice their time to read would either fail or join in the leagues of sorting corrupt lecturers.

“In the same manner, he urged clerics to sacrifice their time in equipping themselves by studying to show themselves approved and back it up with prayers and fasting will surely become empty.”

Contributing to the sermon of the day, Madumere eulogized clerics for their efforts in grooming good citizens and instilling in them fear of God and patriotism.

“I must say that I have been blessed by today’s service and of course the sermon was highly spiritual even as he struck the right cord.

“However, I am more interested in the issue of sacrifice as it concerns nation building. Martin Luther King made enormous sacrifices for the freedom of the blacks and equality before the law. He saw the Promised Land never lived to enjoy it.

“The same thing happened to Moses who fought all through, led the Israelites out of Egypt but he never made it to the Promised Land.

Contrary to the belief from some quarters that he fought to preserve the state from becoming a private estate without anything in return, Madumere said that such should be discountenanced but that all glory should go to the Lord.

“At every point in time, God uses men to achieve a certain goal to glorify in glory to His name. At this point, if you find yourself playing such a role for your people, do not look forward to any reward.

“Because I played a role in the last political dispensation; people have always come to me to ask about the appreciation of the system. I have always told them that making sacrifices does not mean one must get a reward. I feel fulfilled that some Imolites and I fought to make it clear that no individual can be greater than the people. I therefore call on Nigerians, especially politicians to live above personal interest and always work for the general will.”
