Imo Diaspora Leadership Cautions Uzodimma On Orlu Killings

Imo State Leadership in Diaspora (IMLID), the umbrella organization of Imo State citizens worldwide has urged Governor Hope Uzodimma to tread with caution on issues that concern the shaky Orlu Security situation.

The group made the statement through their President who is also the President of Imo State Congress of America, Engr. Sampson Udeh.
The group urged Governor Uzodimma to demilitarize Orlu, wondering the reason the soldiers should be deployed in the zone in the first place, describing it as anomaly and inhuman.

They insist that Uzodimma’s intervention to arrest the situation was in order but frowned at the mindless killings of innocent civilians. “We have come to terms with the realities of killing of innocent people by soldiers. This is unacceptable”, he stated.

Regretting the reported cases of innocent deaths, he said the growing cases of restiveness occasioned by the reported cases of criminals masquerading as herdsmen must be dealt with decisively without any sentiments.

His words: “We are appalled by the expansion of criminality by the so called herders across the country with some persons in the Presidency allegedly giving them cover.

“Again, the South East Governors must stop the ‘Sidon-look’ attitude when other zones are speaking out and calling the devil by its name.
The President General urged our governors to setup a unified zonal security system, but at the mean time adopt the Eastern Security Network to ensure that criminal elements are driven far away from our forests. The genuine ones must make themselves known.

“We are tired of hearing cases of rapes and killings. Our old ones can no longer go to their farms in peace.

“Imo State Diaspora Leaders may no longer sit and watch our people mercilessly maimed and killed with the supposed leaders doing nothing to protect the citizenry. The First charge of any government is protection of lives and property.

“We therefore call for a change in attitude by our governments. They must always act responsibly in the general interest of the people and not wishy-washy responses that are driven by self preservation.

While encouraging use of tact and diplomacy, the Governor and other leaders must be able to know when to speak out, calling for unified action to deal with issues of security.
