Buhari Urges Senate To Confirm New Service Chiefs, Buratai, Others As Ambassadors
President Muhammadu on Tuesday urged the Senate to consider and confirm the immediate past Service Chiefs for appointment as ambassadors.
He also asked the upper chamber to confirm the newly appointed Service Chiefs.
Senate President Ahmad Lawan read Buhari’s letters of request on the floor at plenary.
The ex-Service Chiefs to be confirmed as envoys include: General Abayomi Olonisakin (rtd), Lt. General Tukur Buratai (rtd), Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (rtd), and Air Vice Marshal Mohammed Usman (rtd).
The new Service Chiefs to be confirmed by the upper chamber are Chief of Defence Staff, Major-General Leo Irabor, Chief of Army Staff, Major-General Ibrahim Attahiru, Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo and Chief of Air Staff, Air-Vice Marshal Isiaka Oladayo Amao.
In his letter seeking for the confirmation of the CDS and Service Chiefs, Buhari said: “In compliance with the provisions of Section 18(1) of the Armed Forces Act. Cap A20 Laws the Federation of Nigeria 2004, I hereby forward for confirmation by the Senate, the appointment of the under listed officer as the Chief of Defence Staff and Services Chiefs of the Armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
Buhari in a separate letter sought the confirmation of Barr. Victor Chinemerem Muruako as Chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission.
He said that request was made pursuant to the provision of Section 5(3) of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, 2007.
