Mr Chinedu Halifax, popularly known as Okenwa, was almost assassinated yesterday by gun wielding men.
It was gathered that Chinedu, who is a brother in-law to Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, was ambushed with his wife along the Enugu-Abakaliki Expressway.
According to a source, Chinedu was driving, with his wife beside him, from Enugu to Abakaliki, capital of Ebonyi State, when suddenly a car appeared beside him and guns were pointed at their direction.
The source said: “Apparently sensing danger, Chinedu sped off and drove into a nearby village where he abandoned his car and ran into the bush with his wife.”
It is not known if it was a robbery or politically motivated assassination attempt.
Ebonyi State has witnessed several killings in recent times. Some of the killings are believed to be perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen and members of separatist groups.
A police source confirmed the incident and noted that operatives have been detailed to apprehend the gunmen.
