INT’L WOMEN’S DAY: Ondo First Lady Urges Women To Be Supportive To Their Hubbies, Seek Political Office

The wife of Ondo State Governor, Arabirin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu on Monday called on women to keep on supporting their husbands towards giving their children very sound education and morality to help the children become useful to themselves, family and society at large.


Mrs Akeredolu who spoke through Barr. (Mrs) Aroloye who made the call while in a chat newsmen shortly after the International Women’s Day Programme held at Better Life Premises, Odode Idanre, where she read the First Lady’s speech during the celebration.

She called on womenfolks not to let anything dampen their enthusiasm and determination to make their homes peaceful abodes.

Mrs Owate Feyi, the Idanre Local Government Treasurer, who presented a lecture on the topic, “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID -19 World” at the event, lamented that the immense contributions and selfless sacrifices that women provide, the contemporary Nigerian society does not give them leadership positions.

She called on women to seek elective and leadership positions. She listed some of the virtues required for good leaders as honesty, hard work, ability to delegate responsibilities, showing good exemplary lifestyles and characters amidst others.

She advised women to plan their lives in such a way that both domestic and professional duties do not suffer.


Earlier, the Executive Chairman of Idanre Local Government, Hon. Prince Kayode Adebambo Aroloye in his speech appreciated the wonderful roles of women in the past and contemporary times, at home and politics and enjoined them to be ready to vie for and take leadership positions both in secular worlds and in politics.

He assured the women of the open door policy of both Arakunrin Akeredolu’s administration and his own at the Local Government level.

He promised to continue helping the womenfolks in their programmes despite the paucity of fund everywhere.


In her admonition, High Chief Beatrice Durojaye Aroloye, the Yeyelobun of Atosin Idanre called on women to keep on focusing on making their homes a successful one and if opportune to be richer than their husbands, they should not become proud and uncontrollable.

She praised the Kayode Aroloye administration for carrying along the traditional chiefs in the scheme of things.

As follow up to distribution of Solayo Baby kits to some women yesterday, cash gifts were presented to some indigent and needy women at the well attended gathering which also featured dancing to music provided by the Local Government Cultural Troupe while light entertainment followed.
