IGP IRT Team Arrest killers of POS Operators In Aba

The Inspector General of Police Rapid Response Team (IRT) attached to the Aba Area Command have arrested six members of an armed robbery gang responsible for the death of two operators of Point Of Sale (POS) in Aba, the commercial nerve of Abia State.

The suspects, our correspondent gathered were arrested in different parts of Aba through the efforts of the intelligence team of the Aba Area Command and personnel of the IRT.

The gang of armed robbers specialized in using commercial tricycle to perpetuate their evil deeds.

Some of the items recovered from the suspects who are all members of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity include one Pump Action gun, one AK47, two locally made pistols, some yet-to-be expended live ammunition.

The names of the suspects are Uzoma Samuel (25 years); Gang leader from Umuomi village in Obingwa LGA of Abia State.

Godwin Apeh (32 years), from Olamaboro LGA, Kogi State.

Sunday Chibuike (22 years) from Ezinifite Mbaise LGA of Imo State

Godswill Kalu (23 years) from Ohafia LGA of Abia State

Chibuzor Gabriel (21 years) from Oshiri LGA of Ebonyi State and

Abraham Thompson (27 years), an Indigene of Oron LGA in Akwa Ibom State and driver of the commercial tricycle with Registration number Abia EZA 326 WZ, used by the group in their various operations.

The suspects confessed being behind the death of the two POS operators; Miss Ezinne Grace Iroh (23 years) from Ohafia LGA and Dr. Godwin Chimaobi Victor Igbokwe, an indigene of Isuikwuato LGA of Abia State respectively.

According to the gang leader; Uzoma Samuel, who is an undergraduate of the Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, their aim was just to rob the victims, but the event turned out otherwise.

A police source who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that the IRT swung into action on the heels of the death of Dr. Igbokwe whose killing caused many operators of POS to quit the business that was their only source of living as they have started becoming endangered species in the hands of hoodlums and armed gunmen.

The IRT source who thanked the leadership of the Aba Area Command for the support that it gave the team in achieving the success, assured residents of Aba and the State of their safety and warned criminal elements in the state to think of more legitimate thing that they will as the police and other security agencies have spread their drag nets in nipping crime in the bud in the state.

It could be recalled that the State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu had promised cash reward for anyone that provides information that will lead to the arrest of the killing gang after the news of late Igbokwe and Miss Iroh went viral.
