Eti-Osa Bar Forum Opposes Fuel Hike to N212 Per Litre, Describes Decision As Insensitive

League of Legal Practitioners under the umbrella body of Eti-Osa Bar Forum has vehemently opposed the hike in premium motor spirit (pms) to N212.67.

The group says that it is not unaware of the of the denial of the Petroleum Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) as the pump price has already been increased.

The group of lawyers wonders the reason for the increment at a time Nigerians are going through economic hardship.

They therefore call on National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Nigerian Bar Association to bring up the issue for discussion in its forthcoming meeting coming up on between March 18th and 20th, 2021.

The statement signed by the Chairman, Oladotun Hassan and the Secretary, Ayo Ademiluyi of the Forum reads:

“We hereby state our categorical opposition to the Fuel Price increase announced by the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency. We are of the view that despite the denial of fuel price hike by the Federal Government of Nigeria, it has gone ahead to increase the fuel price hike at a time when Nigerians are going through harsh economic times.

“We welcome the objections to the fuel price hike by various sections of the Bar. We call on the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Nigerian Bar Association holding on 18th to 20th March, 2021 to discuss the practical steps the Nigerian Bar Association should take as regards the fuel price hike, which in our humble opinion should include but not limited to Court boycotts and mass protests.

“We call for united action of all civic organisations including the NLC, TUC, NBA and other broad-based civil society organisations to mobilise to resist this fuel price hike.”
