Mob Kills Suspected Armed Robber In Delta

An irate mob reportedly burnt an armed robbery suspect to death and left another with first degree burns in Warri, Delta state, Monday.

The Nation learnt that the incident occurred near McIver Market in Warri South council area of the state.

The mob was said to have caught up with the hoodlums and set them ablaze after an unidentified person raised an alarm.

The Delta State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement by its spokesperson, DSP Edafe Bright.

“On 15/3/2021, information got to the police in A division Warri that one suspected armed robber was lynched by irate mob at Mccaiver Road, Warri at about 0200 hours of date.

“After due intelligence gathering by the police, one of the suspects Ola Tuoyo ‘m’ age 25yrs was traced to the hospital where he was receiving treatment.

“He suffered first degree burns. The suspect confessed to be a member of the robbery syndicate that invaded Mccaiver Road that night, and gave the name of the deceased mobbed suspect as Idianmi ‘m’ surname unknown.

“The suspect in the hospital is still been closely monitored, though chances of survival is bleak,” the statement said.

The Command further disclosed that it foiled a cult initiation ceremony and arrested 31 suspected cultists, including a female, in Oghara and Okpanam, respectively in Ethiope West and Oshimili North council areas of the state.

According to the Police statement, operatives of the Command under State Anti-Cult Unit (SACU) made 15 arrests during a raid on a hideout in Oghara last Friday.

Raps of substance suspected to be cocaine were also recovered from the suspects..

While the other 16 cult suspects, including the lady, were apprehended Saturday night, when SACU operatives, on a tip off, invaded a bush in Obogba village, where the “Aye confraternity” had reportedly scheduled the initiation of new members.
