Oneness Foundation Makes Case For Indigent Women, Moves To Empower Them
A Non Governmental Organisation, Oneness Foundation, has expressed worries over the plight of the indigent women in Nigeria, calling for an action plan to ameliorate their sufferings.
The President and Founder of the Foundation, Edithmary Tabitha Price expressed this worries in an interview session with NewsTrack Nigeria (newstrack.com.ng).
She said that indigent mothers go through a lot of crucibles during child bearing and baby weaning. “I have seen women go through through suffering in course of child bearing, training of kids and fending for them.
She bemoaned the growing population of homeless mothers and their children, calling for a revisit to signing into law Foster Child Care bill it had earlier presented to the National Assembly, saying that it will go a long to way take off burden from poor mothers.
“Indigent Mothers are vulnerable people in the society. Some of these Mothers even die while finding a way to cater for their children. The extreme of this situation is when some of them are homeless either they have been denied of basic needs of life as a result of negative tradition.
“Widows from such background are in bitter situations. In-laws take over their houses, including the little resources their dead hubby would bequeathed to them.
“Most streets are peopled by homeless children with some of them begging alms on the street.
“The consequences are grave because some of these children have been initiated into various crime gangs, thereby complicating security situation in Nigeria.
“I therefore call for an action plan towards ameliorating the sufferings of these indigent women and mothers, which will be a win-win situation for all.
“For us in Oneness Foundation, we shall continue with our interventions to salvage some precarious situations as much as our resources can carry us.
“Feeding, clothing and empowering these vulnerable demographics in the polity are the areas we have chosen to continue to work on.
“We look forward to partnering with other patriotic minds and agencies to make Nigeria a better place.”
