Be A Vital Role To Economic Revival, Tambuwal-SON

Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal has stated the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) could be a major driver for revival of the nation’s economy.

He spoke during the foundation laying ceremony of the office and laboratory for the organisation.

He noted that for stepping to establish its full operational presence in the state, the organisation has the capacity to stimulate the economy by ensuring quality and standards of products were encouraged for local and international consumption through designed processes

According to the Governor: “It will enhance and boost more revenue, improved quality and standards of products.”

Also speaking while receiving the management team of SON led by its Director General, Malam Farouk Salim at the Government House, Tambuwal expressed confidence that SON would turn around the economic fortunes of the country through its pivotal role for standards.

He noted with the experience, exposure and knowledge of Salim as a professional pharmacist, SON would be transformed to deliver its mandates according to best practices.

Tambuwal further commended President Muhammadu Buhari for identifying capable hand in the person of Salim to take the task of repositioning SON.

Salim said SON was tailored at expanding its scope of activities with a view to generating more income as well as shift from the conventional oil income generating activities to non- oil driven sound economic fortunes.

“We want to fast track window of opportunities that would encourage small and medium scale businesses to thrive among young Nigerians.

“Doing this, we have to take advantage of the African new trade approach to make our products more attractive to appealing to the outside world in order to earn more foreign exchange,” he stated..

He told the Governor that SON was set to start operations in Sokoto with establishment of an office and laboratory for tests and certification of products before going to the market.

He noted that no such laboratory in the north and if established, Sokoto will be the first to have one.
