Fear Grips Imolites Following The Attack On Governor’s House
Imo people now live in fear as security has been beefed up in Owerri, capital city of Imo Imo State after gunmen attacked the family house of Governor Hope Uzodimma in Omuma Community in Oru East Local Government Area.
Around the State Government House and Correctional Centre, Owerri, one lane of the Okigwe road and Bank road was condoned off, leaving one lane for commuters.
The development caused traffic gridlock within the city.
Armed policemen were seen manning Bank road though with visible precautions as they kept far off from the road.
Also, the road leading to the Imo State Police Command and State Government House was narrowed further, which can only allow one vehicle pass at a time after thorough search.
Some Hilux vans loaded with battle-ready soldiers and policemen were seen patrolling major streets.
Deployment of regular and mobile policemen were also seen patrolling with some stationed in strategic positions in the city.
Normal business activities, however, went on smoothly, though people seen in groups discussing the incident of the attack.
It was reported that soldiers have taken over Omuma and Awo Omamma communities in Oru East LGA as well as Mgbidi town in Oru West LGA to restore calm.
