Sheikh Dahiru Blasts El-Rufai Over Treatment Of Quranic Students

By David Adenuga, Bauchi

Renowned Islamic scholar in Bauchi state, Sheikh Dahiru, has berated Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai over what he described as unfair treatment of Quranic students in Kaduna.

He spoke when he received former Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, who paid him a courtesy visit at his residence on Monday.

The Nation reports Sanusi had sought the renowned scholar’s blessings following his appointment as new ‘Khalipa of Tijjaniya Islamic sect in Nigeria’

According to the Sheikh, he would have refused El-Rufai entry into his residence if he had come with the entourage of the former Emir of Kano.

“Where is El-Rufa’i? I thought he will be in your entourage. I would have asked my guards not to allow him to step into this compound.

“He chased Quranic students away, dumped them in the bush far away from town, came back to my house and harassed the occupants just because they were Quranic recites.

” I am not happy over this action taken by the El-Rufa’i. It is an affront to me and I did not do anything to deserve such a treatment.”

Sanusi said Sheikh Dahiru was the first religious leader he visited since his confirmation as the new Khalipa of the movement in the country.

The former Kano Emir appealed for forgiveness on El-Rufai’s behalf, saying he was sure the Governor was not aware of what transpired.

He however, promised to foster unity among the members of Tijjaniya in the country and adherents of other sects and faiths.
