Imo Security Debacle: We Are Funded By Supporters Abroad, Says ESN Suspect

The surviving suspected member of the Eastern Security Network, ESN, who attempted attacking the Imo State Police Headquarters, Owerri, in the early hours of Sunday, Mr Stanley Osinachi, from Mbieri in Mbaitoli LGA of the state, has revealed that they are being funded by their supporters who live in foreign countries.

The suspect also disclosed that a particular native doctor in Aguleri, Anambra state, prepared the charms which they used during last Sunday foiled attack.


He revealed this at the Imo Police Command in Owerri, where he, ( Osinachi ), was paraded alongside other lifeless bodies of his gang who were gun down during the gun duel with the special police forces.

Newstrack Online gathered that the leader of the gang, popularly known as “Dragon”, and said to be an ex soldier was shot and killed.

Hear the suspect,” Dragon recruited me by calling me on phone to join the ESN. I was recruited for the past 3 days. Even when I wanted to leave, he, Dragon, threatened to kill me. He also told me that part of our work is to kill and burn down police station and officers. We came out early in the morning around 4am before I was arrested”.


However, the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bala Elkana, while briefing newsmen at the force headquarters in Owerri on Sunday, noted that a team of security forces in the state were able to dislodge and overpower the hoodlums. ” The synergy among all the services is superb and has culminated in the landmark victory recorded today. Lastly, the Commissioner of Police is calling on all those in possession of weapons stolen from security agencies to return them to the nearest police station or military installation on or before 12th June, 2021, to prevent the long arm of the law catching up with them” he said.

“Four AK 47 Rifles with 2000 rounds of live ammunition and large number of explosives were recovered from the scene.

“The same gang together with their members that were killed in previous operations were responsible for series of attacks in different parts of the State. They are the same people in the viral video that blocked the flyover at Orji and killed three unarmed civilians, including a woman they brought out of their vehicle blindfolded. A Police Inspector sustained gun shot wounds during the exchange of fire this morning and is currently receiving medical attention.”
