TOPIC : IT IS NOT FOR SALE.

_But Jacob said, “You must sell me your rights as the firstborn son.” Esau said, “I am almost dead from hunger. If I die, all of my father’s wealth will not help me.” Genesis 25 : 31,32._

Esau was so concerned, so desperate for how to meet with his physical need, hunger, that he lost sight of the only divine privilege given to him from God.

Esau because of hunger sold his birthright to his younger brother Jacob, and confirmed the transaction with an oath. If Esau had endured the hunger that singular moment, he would have secured himself food in his father’s tent within a short time. But to satisfy the desire of the moment, he carelessly bartered the glorious heritage that God Himself had promised to his father. His whole interest was in the present. He was ready to sacrifice the heavenly for the earthly, to exchange a future good for a momentary indulgence.

Esau forgot the value of the birthright, being the first son, but Jacob understood it’s value. Esau who had a strong desire for a particular article of food felt not the necessity of turning from the tempting, coveted dish. He did not control his appetite until its power bore down every other consideration when he said “I am almost dead from hunger. If I die, all of my father’s wealth will not help me? Then Jacob gave Esau bread and vegetable soup. Esau ate and drank and then left. So Esau showed how little he cared about his rights as the firstborn son.”

It was after a short time that Esau wanted his birthright again that he knew he could not find it.

There are things we cherish and love in our lives, things that are temporary, visible and physical because we think we need them and cannot do without them. Some times we have allowed these temporary visible and physical things to take the place of the invisible, spiritual and eternal things, meanwhile we have sold them for no gain.

PRAYER:
Lord, we pray this day that you would help us not to sell or despise any spiritual, or divine value we have from you, and if we have in anyway sold or despised any, please Father forgive our foolishness and restore them to us in Jesus name. Amen.
