Topic: A Good Leader

_You should do good deeds to be an example in every way for young men. Titus 2:7a_

God chose Zephaniah as a prophet to speak to the people of Judah during the reign of King Josiah. King Josiah was only eight years old when he became king after his father Amon was murdered. Just like King David, King Josiah pleased the Lord by obeying all the laws of God.
When he was a few years older, he started destroying the places where people worshiped the heathen, false gods. He pulled down the altars of Baal and destroyed the incense-altars. He went around from place to place removing all heathen altars and idols until he had cleared the whole nation of idols.
A leader is not someone who just bosses others around. You may never have thought of yourself as a leader, but when others are following your example without you even knowing it, makes you a leader! A good leader must be courageous. People respect leaders who know what is truly important and stand up for what they believe in.
A good leader must be an example by doing what is right and change what is wrong. Josiah found out all he could about living a life that is pleasing to God and as he grew older and saw all the wrong, sinful things around him, he did what he could to stop the evil.
Finally a good leader is loyal to God. Serving God and doing what is right could make you unpopular with your friends or community. Josiah was not concerned about what people thought of him. All that was important to him was to please God rather than people.

Song (SDAH 591)
In our work and in our play,
Jesus, ever with us stay;
May be always strive to be
True and faithful unto Thee.
Then we truthfully can sing,
We are children of the King.

Children of the King are we!
May we loyal to Him be;
Try to please Him every day,
In our work and in our play.
Then we truthfully can sing,
We are children of the King.

*Prayer*
Thank you Lord for reminding me that in my little corner, I am a leader. Please help me always to be true, loyal and faithful that I may be an example to others in all I do, say or do. Amen.
