Topic: Peer Pressure
_Do not be shaped by this world. Instead be changed within by a new way of thinking. Then you will be able to decide what God wants for you. And you will be able to know what is good and pleasing to God and what is perfect. Romans 12:2 ICB_
We all face peer pressure at some stage of our lives. The key is not to give in to it. Peer pressure is worse during youthful years. We all so much want to be accepted. We want to belong to the “happening crowd” but the ‘happening crowd’ may not be the crowd we should be with.
It is far better to have one or two close friends than to have many friends that don’t really care about how we feel, or what you believe. If all they want to do is to have ‘fun’, not caring if it’s right or wrong or if it may hurt others, then it’s best not to go along with them.
People only tease other people to get them to do the ‘wrong things’ that they want to do. If you don’t go along with them, you face ridicule. But I say, ‘who cares what they think’. Just keep doing what you know is right and don’t worry about what the others think.
You don’t need to give in to peer pressure. You don’t need to please others – just please the Lord. God brings out the best of us, and develops well-formed maturity in us. Others may try and get us to do
what we feel may not be right,
don’t give in to the pressure to please,
but do what pleases Christ.
*Song*
I would be, dear Saviour, wholly thine;
Teach me how, teach me how;
I would do thy will, O Lord, not mine,
Help me, help me now.
Refrain
Wholly thine, wholly thine,
Wholly thine, this is my vow.
Wholly thine, wholly thine,
Wholly thine, O Lord, just now.
*Prayer*
Dear Lord, I will one day face peer pressure, please guard my life and heart. Help me to be strong, only follow your example, never wanting to sample nor give in to the enticement of friends. Amen
