Topic: Be Like Samuel
” _Now Eli’s sons were evil men. They did not care about the Lord…The Lord saw that the sin of the servants was very great. They did not show respect for the offerings made to the Lord… The boy Samuel kept growing. He pleased God and the people.” 1 Samuel 2:12,17, 26_
Samuel was a special child of vow and divine intervention. Hannah was blessed after a long time of waiting upon the Lord.
Samuel was placed under the care and spiritual apprenticeship in the house of Eli with close working relationship with Eli’s kids who were to be examples to him.
Eli’s sons were corrupt and engaged in many forms of wickedness and ungodly practices. Samuel grew up in their midst but never allowed any of their negative practices to influence him.
Samuel, though a little boy stood for the right and chose total obedience and walked in the path of holiness. He did not allow the older kids of Eli to influence him to join their evil ways. He stood alone in path of righteousness and God used him to announce the great judgement upon the house of Eli, even when he had not began to read and interpret prophetic messages (visions/dreams). He remained faithful in the path of holiness and God prospered his mission in the house of Eli.
In our homes where we have our older siblings engaged in acts of ungodliness or disobedience, can we stand out like Samuel and say yes to uprightness? Oh yes we can. Even in the midst of bad peer influence and other societal ills, we can say Yes to Jesus and be like Samuel.
