Buhari To Adamawa Indigenes: You’re Dependable

President Muhammadu Buhari has described indigenes of Adamawa State as dependable and reliable.

He spoke on Friday during a condolence visit to the State over recent demise of prominent indigenes.

A super Federal Permanent Secretary in the 1970s, Ahmed Joda, died in Yola last Friday while Dr Mahmud Tukur, a former Minister of Commerce, died on April 9, 2021.

Both men worked for or with Buhari with Joda serving as Buhari’s presidential transition committee chairman in 2015.

Tukur was Buhari’s Minister of Commerce and Industry when the former was Head of States between 1983 and 1985.

Buhari, who arrived Yola International Airport in Jimeta around 10:40 am, was received by Governor Ahmadu Finitiri.

He proceeded to the Lamido of Adamawa Palace in Yola town where he met with the Lamido Adamama, Alhaji Barikindo Aliyu Musdafa and family members of the deceased.

He commiserated with the governor, Lamido Adamama, his in-laws (his wife Aisha, hails from the State) and residents over the demises.

He said the contributions of the deceased to the development of the state and country are praiseworthy, stressing indigenes of Adamawa State are reliable and trustworthy.

He said: “Since my days as a military ruler to even now that I am a civilian President, I’ ve found Adamawa people very reliable.

“That is why when I became the President in 2015, I made one of them the Minister in charge of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, a very difficult task but I’m not disappointed. He is doing a good job.

“The late Ahmed Joda was equally a good and hardworking person. He headed my transition committee in 2015.

“The only thing I can say to Adamawa people is thank you. I appreciate all you have done for me. May the souls of the departed rest in peace. May God rest their souls.”

Fintiri thanked the President for identifying with Adamawa people in their moments of grief.

He said the State lost three illustrious sons recently and it was a trying moment for the government and the citizens.

Much of Yola was on lockdown while the President’s visit lased, with all roads leading from the airport in Jimeta, Yola North LGA to Yola Town in Yola South LGA closed to traffic.

Adamawa Police Command, which deployed operatives to control movements, said through its image maker Suleiman Nguroje, after the President left town that the Command’s operations were hugely successful.
