Imo Govt Denies Demolition Of Sunaz Filling Station, Says They Still Operate

Imo state government said on Wednesday that it had uncovered lies about the claim of demolition of a filling station by Sunaz Oil Ltd, which resulted in the strike embarked on by independent marketers.

The government described the claim as a fabrication made by the enemies of the state to incite the people against the government.

The discovery was made by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, who led a team that investigated the filing station located at Amaigbo, Umuna, Orlu, in Orlu Local Government.

Addressing reporters in Owerri, he said the petrol station alleged to have been destroyed is still dispensing petrol to customers.

When The Nation contacted the Secretary General of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Gas Workers (NUPENG), Mr. Olawale Afolabi, with the facts, he said he was not a marketer and was not representing them.

“I know there is a judgment, not a claim, against the Imo State Government. But a marketer may have more than one filling station.”

Pressed further that the one being referred to is the filling station at Umunna Orlu, he said: “I am not a marketer and I don’t represent marketers in Imo State.”
