NHRC Boss,Dr. Okechukwu, Ekiti AG, Abacha’s Lawyer, 69 Others Get SAN Rank

The number of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) grew on Thursday with the announcement of 72 more by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC).

The 72 lawyers conferred with the SAN rank this year are made up of 62 advocates and 10 from the academics.

Among them are the Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Dr. Ojukwu Anthony Okechukwu; Ekiti Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Fapohunda, Adekola Olawale; one of the lawyers to the Abacha family, Atabo Reuben Okpanachi; Lough, Simon Asamber, of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and Lagos-based lawyer, Burkaa, Matthew Gwar.

The 10 from the academics including the Ojukwu of the NHRC, are Prof. Oyewo Ajagbe Toriola; Prof. Omorogbe Oluyinka Osayame; Prof. Ijaodola Rasheed Jimoh; Prof. Sodipo Bankole Adekunle Akintoye; Dr. Wigwe Christian Chizindu; Dr. Agbonika Josephine Aladi Achor; Prof. Sanni Abiola Olaitan; Prof. Omoregie Edoba Bright and Prof. Adbullahi ibrahim.

Also on the list are Adeniyi, Anthony Ademuyiwa; Umeh, Philip Ndubuisi Evaristus; Ovrawah, Ogaga; Afuba, Peter Aguigom; Ajose-Adeogun, Olaotan Olusegun; West-idahosa; Ehiogie; Awa, Uche Sunday; Mekwunye, Charles Dumbiri; Oladoja, Tajudlien Olaseni and Akaraiwe, Ikeazor Ajovi.

The Acting Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and LPPC Secretary, Hajo Sarki Bello said, in a statement that te new SANs would be inaugurated on December 8, 2021.

She said the application for next year’s exercise would commence until a date to be announced in January 2022.
