Sokoto Killings: Death Toll Rises To 43

Following the reported deadly attacks on people of Sokoto State by bandits, The number of people killed in two councils of the State has risen to 43.

Gunmen attacked Goronyo and Illela communities in the early hours of Monday with the death toll initially put at 13.

But after a visit to the areas on Wednesday, Governor Aminu Tambuwal said the figure has jumped to 43.

Tambuwal confirmed the latest casualty figure yesterday in a statement by his special adviser on Media and Publicity, Muhammad Bello.

Members of the state’s executive, the security council and other government officials were with the governor on the visit.

“On Wednesday, the death toll had risen to 43,” Bello  said, adding that the village head of Kalmalo, one of the five villages affected in the attack was wounded.

Other villages affected were Munwadata, Sarma, Runji and Masasa.

“This is not a small occurrence. It is upsetting. This incident really touched us,” he said, quoting Tambuwal.
