Imo Varsity Littered With Substandard TETFUND Buildings (PHOTOS)

While Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) may have done well in its various interventions in the tertiary institutions, especially in the area of physical structures and other educational facilities.

However, those in the position of managing this funds sometimes forget that they not doing anybody any favour.

One the funds are not theirs from two percent tax derivable from companies registered in Nigeria.

It is an agency created for supplementary supports to tertiary institutions. Such interventions are now being taken for granted as some of their structures are life threatening because they offer contracts to quacks or now use the agency’s funds to settle friends and well wishers otherwise some of the structures we see should not look as though they were put up with the purpose of carefully plotting calamity against a people.

A visit to the Faculty of Humanities in Imo State University would rather send some chills to your spine and to to worsen the matter, the school management is using the same structure as administrative building.

Imo State University has an engineering department; sine they have civil engineering department and Faculty of Engineering, it is expected to use its Engineers to ensure that standard is maintained.

The new block is already collapsing when it barely two years old.

Speaking to one of the staff who simply gave his name as Nwaiwu, he said they school authority knew nothing about the building. “It was a certain people from the North who came and put up the structure.

“The building is at the verge of collapsing. The building is a death trap. You can see that out lecturers are comfortably sitting in the offices. Well, we always pray to God even in things we can handle as humans.

“Already, one of the columns is cracks while the roof of some of the slabs are already being parched with cement. It is instructive that Engineers from the Agency must ensure that only qualified engineers and contractors are contracted to put up their structures.

Also, the benefitting high institutions must deploy their Engineers to ensure quality control This is even more worrisome that tax payers money is being wasted as these kind of projects are wholly substandard.

The same faith may befall other structures scattered around the country. I therefore call for inspection of every structures put up around the country and ensure they are up to standard to avoid avoidable calamity.
