NSCDC Destroys 79 Illegal Refineries, Generates N529b For Govt
The Commandant-General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr Ahmed Audi, said about 79 illegal refineries were destroyed by the Corps this year while over N529 billion was generated as revenue for the government.
Addressing senior officers of the corps at the opening of its 3rd Commandant-General conference at the headquarters of the NSCDC in Abuja, Dr Audi said 503 people were also arrested in connection with various criminal acts.
Audi explained that the Corps, in collaboration with other sister security agencies, was able to prevent attacks on a number of national critical infrastructures, while some of its personnel paid the supreme price in the process
He said considering the spate of attacks on the country Correctional Centres across the country, the Corps would evolve a new strategy with Nigeria Correctional Service to secure and protect Correctional Centres from attacks by gunmen.
Audi said: “The Corps has recorded a lot of successes in our anti-vandalisation drive and protection of critical national assets and infrastructure where several arrests and prosecutions have been recorded.
For instance, earlier in the month of December 2021, the Corps, in synergy with sister agencies arrested 40 suspected oil thieves, 10 trucks, nine boats, 69 jerry cans/drums, 100 petroleum pipes and 83 sacks filled with suspected adulterated petroleum products in different parts of Rivers State alone.
“Other items recovered from the suspects included seven pumping machines, seven numbers of 40 HP Yamaha engines, one 90 HP Yamaha engine and several hoses used for syphoning petroleum product.
The suspects are currently undergoing thorough investigation and will soon be made to face the full wrath of the law.”
