Governors Meet Wednesday On Pressing National Issues

The Governors of the 36 States have scheduled a meeting for Wednesday in Abuja to discuss “pressing national concerns.”

The spokesman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, was however silent on what constitutes “pressing national concerns.”

Bello-Barkindo also described the meeting, scheduled to hold at the NGF secretariat, as a “very crucial meeting.”

The meeting, planned to commence by 8pm, is the NGF’s first this year and members are expected to attend in person.

The statement reads: “The Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Ekiti State, Dr John Kayode Fayemi is inviting all the 36 Governors to a very crucial meeting where pressing national concerns will be discussed.

“The meeting is for Wednesday January 19th 2022.

“According to an invitation issued by the Director General of the Forum, Mr. Asishana Bayo Okauru at the weekend and sent to all the respective Governors, the meeting, which will be the first in 2022, will be an in-person meeting as opposed to the regular virtual ones, to effectively convey the messages of the meeting, which are all characterised under item 2 of the agenda titled matters arising.

“To also feature prominently are the interventions programs like the regular updates from the Nigeria Governors’ Forum State Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability · (SFTAS) team and another on CARES, as well as a few presentations.

“The meeting, which will commence at 8pm, will be at the NGF Secretariat in Abuja, where the NGF Chairman will thereafter, accompanied by all the 36 Governors, address a press conference.”
