Electoral Act: ‘Senate To Decide After Resumption’
The Senate will decide on how to go about the re-amendment of the Electoral Act after resumption, it was learnt yesterday.
The Chairman of Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Ajibola Basiru, stated this while speaking on phone with our correspondent.
He said since the Senate had not resumed, he would not know what plans it has for the Electoral Act, which President Muhammadu Buhari had vetoed before the National Assembly adjourned for the Christmas and New Year festivities.
“We have not resumed. So, there is no way we can know now. It is only when we resume that we will decide on what to do,” Basiru said.
Reacting to President Buhari’s reasons for not assenting to the amended electoral law, the Senate had said it would wait for the National Assembly to resume this month to enable it consult the House of Representatives on what should be the next line of action.
