Towns and cities were deserted in Abia and Enugu states yesterday despite the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) announcing that there would be no sit-at-home over the court appearance of its leader Nnamdi Kanu.
IPOB had said the exercise would only be Tuesday.
But in Abia, markets and other public institutions were closed.
It was learnt that some hooded men enforcing the sit-at-home burnt two tricycles on the Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway and at the Ama Ogbonna area in Aba North.
The incident forced many shop owners in the area who opened for businesses to close.
Motor parks and loading bays in Aba and Umuahia recorded a low turnout of passengers.
Banks in Aba and Umuahia were closed.
Residents of Enugu, for the third day, remained indoors.
Markets and streets were deserted over the fear of attack by hoodlums who have continued to enforce the suspended exercise.
Banks, filling stations, schools, markets, parks and offices were under lock and key.
Youths played football at Obiagu and Gariki, places known for huge economic and vehicular activities.
Students refused to attend lectures; parents and guardians kept their children and wards at home.
But Imo, residents went about their normal business.
Commercial and private vehicles were seen on the roads, while markets and some filling stations operated unhindered.
Commercial motorcycle (Okada) riders, cart pushers and tricycle (Keke) riders were all in business.
However, some financial institutions and schools did not open.
