Niger Imposes Curfew On Two Councils Over Terror Attacks

Niger State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Shiroro and Rafi local government areas over increased attacks by terrorists that have claimed many lives.

It said that the decision was also due to intelligence reports that bandits were moving into the State in large numbers.

It was learnt residents of Rafi and Shirorocl councila were told to remain in their homes from 5 pm on Saturday till further notice.

Residents in Kuta, Gwada and Zumba have been locked down with heavy military patrol.

The Chairman of Shiroro local government area Alhaji Suleiman Dauda Chukuba confirmed the development.

He said anyone seen outside would be treated as a terrorist.

Niger Commissioner of Local government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Internal Security, Mr Emmanuel Umar Bagna said the measure would flush out terrorists and expose those who are planning to invade the town.

The Commissioner appealed to the communities to cooperate with security agencies to restore peace.
