TOPIC: DO NOT CARRY IT ALONE
“ _Hear now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel and God shall be with you” (Ex 18:19)_
When Jethro, Moses father-in-law visited Moses, bringing back Moses’ wife and two sons who have been with her. Moses left them and went to Pharaoh according to the Lord’s instructions. He brought burnt offerings for thanksgiving which Aaron and the Elders of Israel offered unto the Lord for how the Lord has led Israel out from Egypt and Jethro, the priest of Midian became converted and joined the people of God.
Jethro gave counsel to Moses, his in-law when he saw the stress and burden, he bears to handle the leadership of Israel alone. He says “You will surely wear out, both you and this people that is with you, for this thing is too heavy for you, you are not able to perform it by yourself alone…”
And, he counselled Moses to set up leaders of men that fear God and let them be rulers over the people in thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens. To judge small matters. Then let them bring to you big matters for you to judge, and by so doing, the work would be easier for you. Moses being so humble, accepted the counsel and presented it before God. God directed him and the elders to choose men that were honest and trusted by the people to assist him in the work of leadership
Children of God are encouraged to accept the counsels of Godly parents and elderly men and women in order to be successful in their lives endeavours. The Bible is filled with God’s counsels to His beloved children, and you can begin with the book of Proverbs and Ecclesiastes, then, others.
Do not always feel that you “know it all”. You should open up and seek for counsels from godly parents or people around you.
God has also blessed this church with great wealth of counsels through the Spirit of Prophecy writings of E.G White.
Our duty is to study them and apply the counsels, like Moses, so that it may be well with us.
*THOUGHT REFLECTIONS*
1. Can you think of a time when you rejected/accepted the counsel of a parent/elderly. How did things go with you?
*SONG* :
OBEDIENCE is the very best way to show that you believe. Doing exactly what the Lord commands, doing it happily. Action is the key, do it immediately, joy you will receive. Obedience is the very best way, to show that you believe.
O-B-E-D-I-E-N-C-E, Obedience is the very best way to that you believe.
*PRAYER* :
Dear father, I thank you for the wonderful counsels that you have laid in store for us. Help us to accept and make use of these wise counsels. Forgive us for rejecting those counsels in the past. We pray with thanks in Jesus Christ name. Amen
