Imo Angels Female FC Players, Others Attacked, Sustain Injuries From Ex – Abia Angels’ Chair Led Thugs

– Imo Angels Want Roland Sanctioned

A former Chairman of Abia Angels’, and Chairman of Ubakala Queens, Mr. Gbaruko Roland has been accused of unleashing mayhem against a female football club with many of them sustaining various degrees of injuries after they escaped by the whiskers.

According to sources, Roland popularly known as Agwo had invited Imo Angels for a friendly match yesterday (Wednesday), February 23, 2022 with his Ubakala female club, ‘Ubakala Queens’, but things went awry causing pandemonium in the pitch at Ogbo Model Primary School.

According to a witness, trouble ensued when Agwo in the middle of the match asked his side to leave the pitch and come for a discussion, raising anxiety in the camp of the visiting club.

The witness by name, Emmanuel said:

“What transpired could have been averted. Thuggery was order of the day.

“How can a Chairman of a club in the middle of a match called out his players and began to address them when there was no infringement of any kind. For over 30 minutes, the visiting footballers were waiting.

“They scored first and the visitors replied, equalising the goal. But the referee was most unprofessional. The visiting side scored a second goal and after some moments, he discounted it. Meanwhile, what we had was most indecorous match as it was more of fight than a friendly match.

“Beyond bad officiating, just because the General Manager of the visiting Imo Angels complained, the referee who was conspicuously partial hit the Manager with the ball.

“Rather than seek peace and make peace, Mr. Roland mobilised local thugs to attack innocent girls. It was only God that saved the proprietress of Imo Angels who escaped by hiding in the boot of a car.

“I call on the security agencies to wade into the matter, unravel what transpired and exert punishment to whoever that is culpable. And FA should sanction anyone found culpable”.

Speaking with the proprietress of Imo Angels, Jenny Anusiem who expressed shock at what happened first said: “I have God to thank because I don’t even know how we escaped from the hands of the deadly thugs sent to kill us by Mr Gbaruko Roland.

“His thugs shattered our vehicle screens and most of our players are in pains as they were beaten while some receives blows from hands, stones and blocks.

“It was a good Samaritan who called me, advised to get into his boot and that was how I was whisked away otherwise, I wonder what would have happened.

“It was supposed to be a friend match little did we know that we had been marked for death by Roland (Agwo) and his killer thugs.

“We only complained of poor officiating and the unfriendly attitude of the people not knowing it was only a reason being sought to kill us.

“All we want is justice. What could I have told the parents and guidance of my girls were it not for God who helped us to escape.

“I reported the matter to a nearby Police station (Ubakala police station). I commend them for their timely response. However on their arrival, realising their presence, the village thugs dispersed. It was only Agwo who spoke with them but felt that he should have been arrested.

“I only seek justice and those at fault should be brought to book. We cannot develop female football like this. It is a shame that a man who had managed Abia Queens could uphold thuggery even in female football competition, a supposedly friendly one for that matter”.
