Constitutionalism, Justice, Good Leadership Are Core Ingredients Of National Cohesion, Says Madumere

Former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere has said enthronement of constitutionalism, Justice, and good leadership will unite Nigeria, saying these principles will solve ethnocentric and tribal politics.

The former Deputy Governor stated this during an event organised by Prof. Uzorma Foundation for Justice and Equity themed: Unity in Diversity, through his Adviser on Media and Publicity, Uche Onwuchekwa. The event was in commemoration of Prof. Uzorma Protus’ Birthday anniversary and effort in helping those in prison.

Madumere argued that for Nigeria to get out of the woods of ethnocentric politics, which he said has distorted the dream of the founding fathers, it must exorcise itself of the spirit of ethnicity, mediocrity and concentration of power at the centre.

He voted for constitutionalism, which he described as a taming scripture to dictatorial tendency and other traits that might thwart the democratic ideals and their tenets.

He also stressed the need for good leadership, saying that Nigeria must eschew nepotism while upholding justice and equity in the polity.

Admitting that Nigeria must design its own democratic ideals that are in tandem with its peculiarities, he called for more devolution of powers to the state, a move he said will address Nigeria’s  fundamental challenges.

Nigeria’s devolution of powers must also ensure that every Chief Executive must have checks even as he voted for stronger state legislative arm of government, while critical offices should not have wholistic leaning on the chief executive to function effectively“, he submitted.
