*Topic: Unshakeable Faith*

” _Just as the LORD promised, he has kept me alive for forty-five years … so here I am today, eighty-five years old!”…”Now give me this hill country that the LORD promised me that day.” …”You yourself heard then that the Anakites were there and their cities were large and fortified, but the LORD helping me, I will drive them out just as he said.” Joshua 14: 10-12_

One of the twelve spies Moses sent into Canaan, Caleb, had stood beside Joshua to proclaim his confidence that the LORD would give the Israelites victory over the Canaanites, God promised Caleb a special place in Canaan because of this faith.
Now, forty-five years later, Caleb stepped up to remind Joshua of the LORD’S promise and to calm his land – Notice, he didn’t ask Joshua for the lush land in the valley; he asked for the hill country the hill country where the giants had been seen. At eighty-five years of age, Caleb was still faithful, feisty, and prepared for battle. He was confident that with the power of God he would be able to take this tough territory.
Each of us has a mountain to climb, spiritually speaking. The children of God always face obstacles in their lives, but with His strength we can overcome our mountains no matter how rugged the terrain. Caleb had witnessed the parting of the Red Sea, the fall of Jericho, the return to Ai; he was determined to stand in the strength of his God.
Notice that in three out of the four statements in this section, Caleb mentions the name of Yahweh. “The LORD promised… The LORD promised… the LORD helping me.” Here is a man who has learned to trust in the promises of God and stake his whole future on them. He knows what it is like to have the LORD help him, and he is trusting that the LORD will continue to do so. This is exultant, powerful faith prior to the event. It sounds like bragging, but it is faith bragging on the power of God to keep his promises.
Caleb was one who sees himself walking into the future, not alone, but leaning on the strong arm of his God. What an example Caleb has set for us! We are never too old to trust God for great victories and to act out of our faith. Nor should we be shy about claiming God’s promises. Jesus walked up the mount to Calvary to bring all of us into victory in Him. He has freely offered that gift of life to all who call on Him. Therein lies the power to climb the mountains of life!

*Prayer*
Lord, thank you for Caleb, a man of faith who held on until he received the promise. Forgive me for my “little faith.” But I ask you to give me the kind of tenacious faith and patience, that I too might be known as a believer in the Living God like Caleb. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen
