‘Politicians Should Be Diligent’ – The Nation

Nigerians seeking political positions have been urged to proof their mettle in their professions.

An elder statesman, Pa Lawrence Kayode, who gave the advice, lamented that people are not getting the good governance they desire because most leaders are in politics for monetary gains.

The second republic grassroot politician said late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and late Chief Adekunle Ajasin, whom he was privileged to work with, impacted the people positively due to their successful professional careers.

The 85-year-old former councillor in the old Ekiti Central district, described the late Awolowo as a trustworthy person.

Pa Kayode said: “I am one of Awo’s group coordinators in the old Ondo State and I was elected a Supervisory Councillor for Health in 1976.

“Then late Ajasin was elected Chairman in Owo, an accomplished lawyer, Aare Afe Babalola, an educationist, late Chief Ojo Falegan, one Adenipekun, Adeomi and others were also elected as councillor in Ekiti Central district. It is only those who are gainfully employed and are engaged in one vocation or the other that are being elected to occupy political position at that time.
