Breaking: Confusion As Gunmen Attack Imo Community, Shot INEC Official To Death
There was anxiety in Nkwo Ihitte Market in Ihitte-Uboma local government area of Imo State, Thursday, as yet-to-be-identified gunmen numbering 12 attacked some adhoc staff members of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Newstrack Nigeria learnt that INEC Adhoc Staff were registering members of the community in preparation for the 2023 general elections when the gunmen struck.
INEC officer in charge of the registration, NewsTrack Nigeria gathered was shot by the gunmen during the attack.
Confirming the attack, an eyewitness, Mr. Ifeanyi Ogbu, said: “We were at the village square in obedience to the directive that we should come out en masse to register. As we queued, the gunmen emerged in a gestapo manner, shooting sporadically.
“The coerced many into a room with a threat to kill them while others scampered for safety.”
As of the time of filing this report, the gunmen were said to have killed an INEC official, while the total number of death is not yet clear
